Trauma Does Not Always Arrive Loudly

The Many Faces of Trauma

Dear Ones,

Trauma doesn’t always arrive loudly. Often, it moves quietly beneath the surface—shaping how we feel, how we relate, and how safe we experience the world around us.
Developmental trauma, in particular, can be hard to recognize. It isn’t always the result of a single overwhelming event. More often, it grows out of the subtle, repeated moments in childhood when we didn’t feel seen, soothed, or safe.
Sometimes, the signs are found not in what we remember—but in what we don’t. Gaps in childhood memory can reflect early experiences that felt too overwhelming for the nervous system to fully process. In these moments, the body does something incredibly wise: it protects you.

This protection often shows up as a “freeze” response, or dissociation. When everything feels too much, the nervous system gently applies the brakes—numbing, disconnecting, or pulling you out of the present moment. This isn’t a flaw. It’s a deeply intelligent survival strategy that helped you get through.
But what once protected you can, over time, begin to feel limiting. You might notice anxiety, low mood, chronic tension or pain, digestive concerns, or a persistent sense of needing to stay in control. You may feel disconnected—from yourself, from others, or from a sense of choice and ease in your life.
There is nothing “wrong” with you. Your system adapted exactly as it needed to.
And healing is possible.

Through somatic therapy, together we gently work with the body and nervous system to restore a sense of safety from within. At your own pace, we begin to build capacity—to feel, to stay present, and to reconnect with parts of yourself that may have had to go quiet for a long time.
This is not about reliving the past. It’s about creating a new relationship with your body, your experiences, and your sense of self—one that allows for more ease, connection, and resilience.
You’ve already done the hard part: you survived.
Now, it may be time to move beyond survival—and begin to truly thrive.

If this resonates with you, you’re warmly invited to book a free 20-minute consultation to explore how somatic therapy can support your healing journey:
